Gay Spain - Drink
Drinking in Spain
You can expect to pay 3€ for a beer and 6€ for a mixed drink nearly everywhere. In the north of Spain and especially in Sitges they are very generous with drinks on the house, however in the south it's a rare event to get offered a free drink. In larger, busier bars you pay as you go but in smaller bars they usually run a tab which you pay as you leave.
2007 - The good news is, many gay bars in Spain have at last started to realize they'd over priced themselves and there's a trend towards lowering drink prices in many towns now.

Beer and liquor is sold in supermarkets, and in petrol/gas stations from 7am to 10pm.

Coming from England?
If you are coming from England and want 'Lemonade' with your drink, it's called 'Gaseosa' in Spain but is very rarely stocked in bars. They'll tell you that Sprite is the same, but of course you know it's not and it certainly doesn't go well with Southern Comfort!

What's called Beer in Spain (and most of the world) is what you call Lager in England. Pilsner to be exact. If you want Beer (Bitter or mild) you'll have to find an English pub but even then, good luck with the Gaseosa for the Bitter top/Bitter dash. For you Paddys, Guiness is stocked in many bars.

For a coffee similar to what you're used to in England and in North America, in the north of Spain ask for 'Un café Americano con leche'. In the south of Spain ask for 'Un Sombra'.

Coming from North America?
The beer in Spain is virtually identical to North American beer but you don't have to tip a quarter every time you buy one. Tips are not given in bars in Spain. Well, maybe a small token of appreciation as you leave. In the north of Spain ask for a 'San Miguel', the popular alternative - 'Estrella', is a bit weird tasting. (Has rice as an ingredient!) In the south ask for a 'Cruz Campo'.

Drinking & Driving penalties are as severe as anywhere else.
