Lisbon's
gay village is in the area called Bairro Alto between the old Rossio station
and the Polytechnic in the Bairro Rato to the south. Lisbon is a very gay
friendly city. In fact the mayor describes Lisbon as "Increasingly a place
of freedom, tolerance and creative restlessness", in the preface to the
town's gay and lesbian printed guide.
